Side effects
The way pelvic radiotherapy affects people depends the type of cancer, the dose of radiotherapy given, and whether it is external beam or internal radiotherapy. Some possible side effects are:
- Tiredness
- effects on the skin
- changes to the bladder
- intestinal changes
- urinary problems in men
- effects in women, such as premature menopause
Many of these side effects can be managed successfully and will begin to improve a few weeks after the treatment is done. Your cancer doctor, specialist nurse, or radiographer will explain the most probable side effects for people in your situation.
